Media People on Future Nepal

Posted on 2 May, 2006

After the Royal statement addressed on Monday, the Nepalese are celebrating their success on reinstating freedom in the nation. We requested couple of our renowned media personalities to put forward their views on the below mentioned question.

What major changes do you expect in Nepal and what should be the role of the political parties and citizens?

Payal Shakya
(Miss Nepal 2004, Currently in Australia)

On major changes to expect in Nepal-

Nepal is a beautiful country. We should realize the core reasons of violence that has created chaos in our country. It is due to lack of employment opportunities, quality education, gender discrimination and poverty. Therefore we need to solve these problems with a positive attitude as soon as possible.

On the role of the political leaders-

I firmly believe that every management has its system to follow and these systems are created by the government itself but it is seen that the government people themselves do not follow their system. Therefore first of all politicians should be stable with a selfless feeling to serve their motherland.

On the role of the citizens-

A citizen is the foundation of a country and plays an important role in a nation’s development. We should support the management of the country by following its rules and laws. If everyone follows the same track, then, there won’t be any negative energy and the result will be non violent.

"Any form of art will only bloom to its fullest when there is absolute freedom of expression" -anonymous.

Last week on wednesday, singers, music associates, VJ's and RJ's gathered together to show their full support in the current republican protest in Nepal. Singing songs related to peace and freedom, they also lighted candles around the Swayambu Stupa.

At this time of major crisis, they voiced together, "We are not associated with any political parties nor are we revolutionists. But we are revolutionists of our voices, words and music. We want and love freedom and peace." While some were distributing pamphlets of "White banner campaign" to the guests, the others were busy tying the symbolic white bands on their hands. Then they silently stood and showed their white bands that represented peace and freedom. According to Prashan, an RJ of Kantipur FM, these white bands are created to raise voices for the achievement of peace, freedom and non-violence. Read More»
