Music for life
1 February 2011-Tuesday
-The Cheeguz

“When the desire to sing grips me, I can’t help myself from humming a tune and suddenly the world is beautiful,” gushes Parbati Rai, who’s been singing professionally for the past eight years.

Rai credits her first album “Khotang Halesi” for establishing her in the Nepali music scene. She then followed it with "Tirsana" and “Mero Deuta"; the later got her the award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in the Hits FM Music Awards 2064.

“The award was most unexpected yet I really appreciate the gesture, it has fueled me with desire to do more, give back to the music industry,” reveals Rai, who has just resurfaced with her fourth album “Sang-Sangai”. Courtesy Shraddha Digital Recording Company, the album was released three months ago.

It’s love that rules fourth time around, explains Rai about her latest album. “The music video for ‘Sang-Sangai’ is already out, and we are on talks to shoot ‘Chodi Janey Lai’. I love the whole process of bringing songs to the screen.”

So what really motivates her to sing? Rai answers, “For me music evokes emotion, good ones, that heals and soothes both the singer and listener. I feel lucky to be in this profession.”
